Over the course of the 20th century American television accumulated quite a stable of classic Christmas TV specials and movies that are seen year, after year, after year. If you watch but a few hours of network television any time between Thanksgiving and Christmas Day in the U.S., you’re bound to see classics like A Charlie Brown Christmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Frosty the Snowman, or Jack Frost. All of these Christmas classics have been in circulation for decades and are familiar to the young and old.
When it comes to both longevity and continual annual appearance, however, it’s tough to beat the classic stop-motion animated film Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Not only is the beloved Christmas special over half a century old now, but it has been aired every year, first on NBC and later on CBS, since its first showing on December 6, 1964.
